Admission Requirements

We welcome students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin, and do not discriminate of this basis in admissions or in any area of School life and programs. A student is admitted to Indian River Christian School on the basis of character and former record.

Admission Procedure

Registration begins March 1 to March 15 for families of current students. Open registration begins March 16. Procedure for registration is as follows:
    1. Submit completed application packet.
    2. Submit registration fee.
    3. Undergo entrance testing.

When all of the above requirements have been received in the office, as well as former school records, each student’s file will be reviewed. A Letter of Acceptance will be sent or an interview will be arranged for all new students. Students are enrolled at Indian River Christian School upon receipt of the Letter of Acceptance from the Administrator.

Entrance / Placement Testing

Indian River Christian School strives for each child to be successful in their educational experiences. In doing so, it is essential to assess each student’s skill and ability levels so that their needs can best be met.

Periodically in the registration process, entrance/placement testing times will be set so that all new incoming students will be tested. The tests will be administered by the faculty in their classrooms.

On the test day, each student should come having had a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast. Parents should not put a lot of pressure on the students to "perform" but to just do their best.

Kindergarten students, both 4 and 5 year olds, take the Gesell Development Assessment. This assessment determines a student’s developmental age in contrast to the student’s chronological age. Many times a student is pushed into beginning school and the large and find motor skills needed are not developed. This assessment will help parents understand where their child is developmentally and if the child is ready for school.

For grades 1-8, there will be a academic test which measures the reading/language and math areas. This test will take approximately one hour.

Both the developmental testing and academic tests will be scored and the results shared with parents along with any insights or suggestions to make the upcoming school year a successful one for the student. These tests are designed for the adequate assessment level of the ability of each student so that IRCS can best meet their academic needs.

Acceptance

Admissions decisions are reached based on the student’s character and background, the student’s ability to profit from the instruction given at Indian River Christian School, and the absence of any limiting emotional of social deficiencies. Since Indian River Christian School is not adequately prepared to meet the needs of every student who applies, our admissions procedures are designed to help both the School and parents make the best possible decision for the education of their child(ren). Acceptance and enrollment into Indian River Christian School is confirmed by Letter of Acceptance from the Administrator.
