Psalm 100

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth!

Serve the Lord with gladness!

Come into His presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, He is God!

It is He who made us, and we are His;

We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His

Courts with praise!

For the Lord is good; His steadfast love

Endures forever, and His faithfulness

To all generations.” (ESV)

This is a Psalm most of us are familiar with.  Whenever I hear it or read it, I am always reminded how 29 years ago I began a new career.  I became a Pre-K teacher at our Christian school.

The Bible curriculum instructed me to teach the children Psalm 100, and they were required to memorize it.  I thought this is a lot for little 4 year olds to memorize.  But we began to memorize it, a little bit everyday, so that by Thanksgiving they had it fully memorized.

Along with Psalm 100, they memorized a weekly scripture, as well as the pledges to the American Flag, Christian Flag and Bible.  They learned to sing The Star Spangle Banner, God Bless America, and My Country Tis of Thee, not to mention learning their letters and numbers etc.

Children will amaze you with their ability to learn and retain.  Yes much of it is rote learning at that age, but you can never underestimate how the Lord will tuck those things deep down in their hearts, to bring them to remembrance at a later time.

I am very thankful for having had the opportunity to speak into so many lives over a 15-year period.  We never know the path that the Lord will sometimes take us down, but if we will yield ourselves to His calling, He is faithful to prepare us, lead us and use us.

As Thanksgiving approaches, and with so much turmoil in our world, I am reminded of the sacrifices first that Jesus made for mankind, and thankful for my salvation.

I’m thankful for family members and all the men and women who served our country for our freedom, many of them giving their lives, so that we might live.

We have so much to be thankful for even in the midst of turmoil.

I’m thankful for my family and friends.  For good health, a home and food on the table. For being able to serve with my husband in a great church with people who are so kind, caring and loving.  For a really great community we live in.  We are blessed, thank you Lord Jesus.

Wishing each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.”
